Who am I to be an Artist? – Discovering my creative self

The following quote goes a little way to answering the question, who am I to be an Artist?

Our Deepest Fear

by Marianne Williamson from A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us: it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

This is one of my favourite quotes and whilst you may substitute your own word according to your beliefs for the word God, I am sure that these words will resonate very strongly with you too.

As a side note, I have attempted to read A Course in Miracles but as you see from the photo of my books Marianne’s A Return To Love is a tad less chunkier!

Again – who am I to be an Artist?

So back to the original question, who am I to be an artist? the answer, who am I not to be 🙂

Of course I recognise that I’m surrounded by so many fabulous well established artists at every turn, the little voice is already asking is there room for little old me?

Well I’m about to find out!

I’d like to share my journey of discovery with you and answer the question who am I to be an artist? and tackle the little voice of doubt with action. As an aid I’m going to follow The Artist’s Way – A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self by Julia Cameron and I invite you to Join me for the next twelve weeks via my thoughts and discoveries on this page. Although in Julia’s words this is a book that has spoke to millions, this will be my first time of reading and following the action points and tools.
